Interview with machinima author Baron Soosdon
(all graphics in this article were created by Baron Soosdon)
SugarChick(SC): Thanks so much for sitting down with us today to
do this interview, it is really appreciated. To begin with I must shamefully
admit that it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I stumbled across your
work for the first time and saw your "I'm
so Sick" video. Movies I have seen in the past just don't compare
to the quality, artistic expression and overall skill that your work has.
Frankly I didn't know that people could create anything that good, you've
definitely changed my look on WoW machinima and made me a fan of yours
forever.
I think a big reason I was missing out on the quality of machinima is
because most movies are linked using youtube. We're in a day in age where
people want quick and convenient, but I'd definitely recommend people
taking that extra step to download or view movies in full quality. Is
the best way for people to view your work is by going to your Warcraft
Movies page?
Baron Soosdon(BS): Downloading is the way
I personally recommend everyone to view my movies. YouTube really destroys
most of the technical and artistic quality. But for the people who do
not have time or interest to download movies, I always try to give a high
quality stream available (ie. from Stage6, GameTube or somewhere else).

SC: You also have a personal blog site http://baronsoosdon.blogspot.com
and http://koti.mbnet.fi/nublock
where people can learn more about you and your work, could you tell us
a bit about those two sites?
BS: The
blog is currently my main homesite. It has all my ramblings about
future and past projects. The other
site which is very basic is not that often updated - due to my laziness.
Maybe someday I will make a good homepage for myself, but currently it's
not in my plans.
SC: You use the artist name Baron Soosdon to be identified with,
how did you come up with that? Your production company name is "Nublock
movies" where did that originate from?
BS: The name
Baron Soosdon goes back to good old Molten Core ages. At that time, my
main was a warlock called Soosisti. During the Baron Geddon encounter,
our raid leader used to announce the hellfires of B.G. by saying "Hellfire!
Stay away from Baron Geddon!". When we first downed that blob of
fire, I hellfired and said "Hellfire! Stay away from Baron Soosdon!".
After that it became an internal joke and eventually my artist name.
Nublock Movies has a simpler explanation - noob
+ warlock = nublock.
SC: Do you play Horde or Alliance and would you be willing to
disclose your server and/or guild you're in? What is your current main
characters class and race?
BS: I started
as horde and my mains will always be on horde. The closest thing I have
to a main character is my undead shadowpriest Nöfnöf at the
Twilight's Hammer (EU) server. Soosisti the orc warlock also resides there
too, but he is now an alt of mine. They both are in a guild called The
Beastro.
I have been also leveling an alliance alt, a gnome
rogue called Gnorgasm (Spinebreaker - EU) just to see the other side of
the story. To my bad luck that realm is too dead
SC: When you do play what do you spend your time doing, raiding,
pvping or just hanging out?
BS: Currently it's only random leveling.
I have really lost interest to the mindless grind. PvE progress does not
interest me that much anymore.
